The following communication was developed to help school and district Technology Coordinators prepare for and administer the 2016-2017 PARCC assessments. Monthly technology updates will include technology information, implementation resources, hot topics, and troubleshooting guidance. Previous Technology Bulletins are stored at http://parcc.pearson.com/bulletins/. The next communication is tentatively scheduled for November 17, 2016.
Important Update: iOS 10 Not Supported For Fall Block Testing
iOS 10 will not be supported for PARCC testing during the Fall Block Administration due to a testing security issue introduced by new features in this version. This issue was first communicated in the September PARCC Technology Bulletin.
Pearson is working with Apple to resolve the test security issue and allow support for iOS 10 in the future. Schools using iPads should not upgrade to iOS 10 until Pearson confirms the issue is resolved and communicates that solution to the field.
If some of your devices have already been upgraded to iOS 10, please contact Apple Support.
Please note, the current supported versions of iOS are:
- iOS 9.3.2 and newer versions of iOS 9
Important Update: MacOS 10.12 Sierra Limited Support
Limited support for the new MacOS 10.12 Sierra operating system has been added to the TestNav Requirements page. The TestNav Desktop App will not be supported on MacOS 10.12 Sierra; however, browser-based testing using the Firefox 45 Extended Support Release (ESR) browser will be supported. The Firefox 45 ESR browser can be downloaded at http://download.testnav.com.
It is recommended that schools using Mac computers do not upgrade to MacOS 10.12 Sierra until Pearson confirms that the operating system will be supported on the TestNav Desktop App, and communicates that solution to the field.
If some of your devices have already been upgraded to MacOS 10.12 Sierra, please use the Firefox 45 ESR browser to administer PARCC assessments.
Please note, the current supported versions of MacOS are:
-MacOS 10.9, 10.10, and 10.11
Message 5032: Blacklist Applications
Prior to the Fall Block Administration, PARCC is enabling a feature that will prohibit some applications from being open when a student is attempting to sign in to TestNav. An example of the text from the prompt window is shown below:
Message 5032 TestNav has detected a blacklist process '<processname>' running in the background that prevents you from taking this test. Please contact the administrator to stop the blacklisted process running in the background and resume testing.
If this message is received, a Test Administrator will need to verify that the blacklist application has been closed, and then instruct the student to sign in again.
Please note, this prompt will not occur on Chromebooks, iPads, or Androids, since these devices have built-in features that prohibit multiple applications from being open simultaneously during testing.
